PYC VOLUNTEERS NEEDED AND WANTED

Dear PYC Parents,

I want to start by saying thank you to all of the volunteers who dedicate their time and energy each season so that it is possible for Parkland Youth Center to offer to countless children the following quality recreational sports programs: boys and girls basketball, Spring and Fall baseball, Spring and Fall softball, tennis, and in the not to distant past, field hockey.  You, the volunteers, are PYC.

To that end, we need more of you to take the next step and help out this great organization that has been around since the early 1950’s.  September is when we nominate our officers for the following year, and October is when we hold our board elections.

We need your help.

While we have some officers that are willing to stay on for another year, there are several positions that are currently open and others that will be open at the end of September.  Mike Lahanas has offered his name up to return for boys basketball for another year (continuing his 15 year run, even after his children have moved on), but as he mentioned below, he needs help running the program.  Others that have offered to return are Rob Midgett for tennis, and Josh Finch for baseball, both relative new-comers to their roles.  We also have people who have offered to take over girls basketball as Marie Maritch will be leaving after serving for many years – at least as long as I’ve been associated with PYC (again, even after her children have moved on).  I will be resigning as treasurer at the end of September.  I have been in this role and/or a softball coach for 11 years (again, even after my daughter has moved on).  I have also been acting president and secretary for the last several years since these two positions have remained open.  We could also use a person to help our web master as well as someone to coordinate fund raising (both of these are non-board positions).  Not to mention the shortage of coaches we are constantly faced with.

We need your help.

Those of us who are resigning will be more than happy to teach you the ropes and help transition the responsibilities to the next wave of volunteers.  There is definitely a time commitment, and that commitment varies from position to position, and sport to sport.

Our board meetings are the 2nd Sunday of every month at 7:00 PM at the Woodlawn Fire Company Social Hall.  Please let me know as soon as possible if you are interested in learning more about the open positions and how you can help PYC continue the wonderful work in this community.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!!
